If you’ve read my last post, you know that my biggest writing goal for 2025 is to finish the messy first draft of a new novel. I’m having a hard time choosing which of my current ideas to work on, so I thought it would be fun to give the Interwebs some input on the decision. So, without further rambling, let’s introduce our contestants! There's more info on each one below the poll.

Which Would You Read?

  • Between The Stars (Supernatural meets Star Wars)

  • Changelings (Queer, Autistic YA Fantasy)

  • After The End (What happens if the villain survives?)

  • Sikra's Scions (GOT meets Grimm's Fairytales)

Between The Stars

The fate of the Universe is in their hands. Let’s hope they don’t drop it.

The year is 5027, and the only bibles left are decaying in intergalactic museums. Which is a shame, because the next messiah is here and she could definitely use a guidebook. Meet Azrea Shore: a washed-up twenty-something who’s more concerned with finding her estranged sister than with saving the Universe. But when she finds out her sister was kidnapped by the Devil, it looks like she’ll have to do both.

That would be hard even with a crack team of heroes. All Azrea has is a fashionista angel, two alien smugglers, and her sister’s girlfriend, all crammed into a tiny beat-up spaceship. Technically her sister too, but only if they can actually rescue her. This is going to take a miracle to pull off. Unfortunately, she’s still learning how to use those.

Changelings

When sixteen-year-old River and her dads are kidnapped by a society of vicious underground Fae, her life turns upside down. A reluctant alliance with a group of escaped changeling slaves might be her only chance at survival, let alone saving her parents. But she soon discovers that she's not only a changeling herself, she's a natural leader. As River gets more and more entangled in her budding rebellion, she faces a stark truth: even if she can go back to a normal life, she might not want to.

After The End

You know this ending: there’s a battle for the fate of the world, and in a moment of truth, a powerful hero sacrifices themselves for the greater good. The hero is dearly mourned, but people move on and rebuild. Yada yada yada.

For twenty-year-old Letari, there’s a few problems with that ending. First of all they’re still alive. Scarred, weakened and newly magic-less, but definitely alive. Although without their powers, they’re not sure they want to be.

Secondly they’re no hero. Their sacrifice was never meant for the greater good, even though it had that effect. It was a desperate last resort to save the actual hero, Agraine. The two of them have a history, which is a kinder term for their world’s messiest situationship in centuries.

And third, Letari just woke up alone in a strange tent with no clue how they got there.

Okay, maybe that problem should have been top of the list.

Sikra’s Scions

The Evil Queen, Sikra, rules the Empire. She has for five hundred years. Every time her current body gets old and frail, she creates and raises four children: magical infant clones of herself made from dark magic and her own blood. They look identical to her, down to their bone-white hair. She trains them ruthlessly. When they turn twenty, all that training is put to the test in a series of trials. They compete against each other, and the three that lose will die. The remaining child takes Sikra’s name and her throne in a magical ceremony that kills Sikra’s old body as she possesses her new one.

But this time, the four children figure out what's going to happen to them at age ten. They escape the Palace, only to get separated during the chase through the Capital that follows. Flung to the farthest corners of their world and living different lives, the siblings get caught up in a rebellion plot to overthrow the Queen. Sikra’s scions will have to use every bit of magic and cunning they learned at her feet if they ever hope to reunite and take her down.
