Hey friends! I've been sitting on this announcement for a while now and I can't keep it a secret anymore: I'm working on my first series! It's YA, but meant to be right on the intersection of YA and MG. So far I've got the full three books outlined and I'll be starting on first drafts as soon as I get some IRL life stuff in order. My working title is The Aloryn Saga, but that's subject to change.
For something this big, good planning is essential. Planning most of my own homeschool curriculum as a teenager gave me a solid foundation in breaking down larger projects. (Thanks Mom!) Fingers crossed that knowledge will serve me well here.
This series' protagonist is especially near and dear to my heart, being heavily based on myself as a young tween. Hopefully she'll make her way into your heart too once y'all get properly introduced.
It's very early days right now and deadlines tend to give me panic attacks, so I'm going to hold off on naming a release date until I'm much further along in the process. What I can give you right now is a little blurb for the first book, names for the central cast of characters, and some early-stage concepts for the official art. So without further ado, let's get into it!
The Aloryn Saga Book One: Convergence
Twelve-year-old Lyssa has spent most of her life being overlooked and pushed aside in favor of her older sister Cate, feeling like she didn't fit into reality. Her parents don't make an effort to understand why she's overwhelmed by too much physical touch or loud noises, and sometimes goes nonverbal. She's an outcast at school, which is at least better than being actively picked on. Cate is the only one who seems to notice or care about her. Lyssa's always wished she could escape into some magical world. She just never expected it to actually happen. Especially not like this.
On Cate's sixteenth birthday, a strange old woman turns up on their doorstep to cash in some kind of deal with their parents, calling herself Taz and claiming they owe her their firstborn child. Even crazier, their parents agree and try to hand Cate off to Taz. Lyssa volunteers to take her big sister's place, and before anyone can object Taz whisks her off to Aloryn: a world where unicorn ranchers coexist with wolf-people, pirates, and woolly mammoths. Taz's home is beyond weird, but it's a place where Lyssa can live out her wildest dreams of learning magic and having friends who understand her. Well, assuming she can survive and keep her new mentor out of trouble.
